I have just finished reading “The Passionate Programmer - Createing a remarkable career in software development” by Chad Fowler. Wow, what a great book! I can highly recommend reading it to everybody who has something to do with software development.

This book is about enhancing your career in software development. It is organized in 53 very short chapters, each of wich gives concrete advice for improvement. Almost every chapter ends with a section called “Act on it” with steps you can take to improve in a specific area.

Even before reading the book I had a plan for my career, but this was not always the case. In the beginning (during and after university) all about my career was decided by luck. Then I decided to try to steer more and to take concrete (small) steps to improve. I already started to act. But then I found this book - and because of it some of my priorities shifted and I got a lot of new ideas.

I guess nothing will work out as I plan it today, but that’s ok, things can change and my plans will change accordingly. I just hope everything will work out fine, and I have a good feeling that it will. This book is part of the reason why I have that good feeling.
